Markets melt: BSE cracks 2%, Nifty at three weeks low

BSE Smallcap and Midcap took a heavier beating as they fell 2.17% and 2.02%, respectively.

The Indian stock markets fell 2% on Monday April 20, 2015 with the Bombay Stock Exchange's BSE closing at 27,886, down 1.95% and the National Stock Exchange's Nifty dropping 158 points to end at 8448. 

Incidentally, Sensex opened in the green in opening trade and went up 97 points before taking a deep dive. At under 8450, Nifty closed at its lowest point in three weeks. 

Only 8 companies advanced on the Nifty while 42 declined. 

BSE Smallcap and Midcap took a heavier beating as they fell 2.17% and 2.02%, respectively. 

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), that posted its best results in seven years fell 4.79% to close at Rs 882.50. 

Sectors across the board, including metals, mining, telecom, IT, auto saw heavy selling.
