BMW rolls out 50,000th car from Chennai plant, a 7 Series

BMW will increase locally produced parts used in the India cars to up to 50% soon.

BMW has rolled out the 50,000th Made in India car from its Chennai plant, the carmaker said. The 50,000th car was a BMW 7-series, Dr. Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai said

"It is with great pride that we are rolling-out the 50,000th car locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai. Each and every BMW that is locally produced is of the same international standards," he said.

The BMW 7 series was launche din India at the Auto Expo in New Delhi earlier this year. 

The carmaker's Chennai plant started rolling out cars on March 29, 2007. Since then, BMW has been working on increasing the share of locally-produced parts in its models. BMW says it will be increasing the level of localisation at its Chennai plant to up to 50% soon. 

Currently, the Chennai plant churns out the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5.
