Auto aficionados just can’t wait for the six-day razzmatazz of the two-segment 12th Auto Show 2014 to unfold in the Delhi-Noida belt next week.

The Motor Show segment (February 7-11) will see the unveiling of 70 new vehicles, including 26 foreign makes (15 of which will be cars) at a new venue near Greater Noida.

The auto industry (which remained subdued last year due to rising fuel cost, economic slowdown, lower disposable incomes and poor sentiment), too, is all geared up for the event, hoping the expo will somehow revive its fortunes.

Companies including leader Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Hyundai Motors, Ford India, Bajaj Auto and Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) will be among the 55 exhibitors at the Motor Show. About 1,100 exhibitors will take part in the expo segment dedicated to components (6-9 February at Pragati Maidan). A special theme pavilion will promote hybrid and electric mobility.

Maruti is expected to unveil yet another hatchback, the Celerio. German luxury carmaker Audi will unveil its cheapest sedan A3 in India.

“Last year was very tough,” said Vikram Kirloskar, president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers or SIAM, adding the industry is optimistic and working hard to produce better products to boost sales.

Agreed Sugato Sen, SIAM’s deputy director-general. “The car industry had gone into a negative zone; Sales of commercial vehicles have also declined. The Auto Expo is expected to bring cheer. Companies have high hopes for a turnaround.”

The expected footfalls in the Motor Show is about 1 lakh per day,  and about 10,000 per day in the components show, which is primarily a B2B show.

At the Motor Show, the vehicles will be exhibited across 14 halls and three outdoor locations. The total space of the venue has increased to 64,000 sq metres this year, against 44,000 sq m during the last edition.

This year, the venues will host 60 food stalls serving Indian and continental buffets. Special attractions like displays of vintage cars, superbikes and go carting are expected to pull in record crowds.
