Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is slated to hold a meeting to take stock of the preparedness for the roll out of the crucial Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime, sources told Zee Business. The meet comes amid expectations that there may be a delay in the implementation of the GST Bill, they said.

At the meeting, the those in attendance are expected to discuss issues pertaining to IT, legal and HR.

It will be attended by the officers of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). They will meet again over GST on August 29.

Sources told Zee Business that work on the draft bills of the Central GST and inter-state GST is nearly over.

So far, the CBEC has received about 40,000 replies as feedback from different parties, they said.

The GST Bill was given a unanimous nod in the Rajya Sabha followed by a all-in nod from the Lok Sabha for the amended bill.

The government now needs atleast 50% of the states to ratify the amended GST Bill before it can proceed to implement it after due protocol.

Sources said that the government was confident that over 16 states would give their nod for the Constitutional Amendment Bill within the next 15 days.

So far 7 states have passed the GST bill in their assemblies.
