Seeking to give a boost to Japanese investments in Andhra Pradesh, the state government is planning to develop a separate industrial city for investors coming from that country. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who visited Japan about two months ago, held a meeting with the officials from Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

He discussed possible areas of support to Andhra Pradesh from JICA, a state government release said.

During the meeting, JICA officials said they will complete the master plan of Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) by March this year. This is a part of the synergy between Asian Development Bank (ADB) and JICA. Naidu told officials that JICA can assist the state government in detailed master plan for capital beyond core capital region. The Vijayawada region has been chosen for locating the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu said Japanese investors could also support in the Centre's 'Sagarmala Project' (from Vizag to Kakinada) and develop the state into a "logistics hub".

Further, the Chief Minister asked the JICA to focus on integrated development especially from Krishnapatnam (in Nellore district) to Chennai. To this, JICA officials said the agency can facilitate accelerated cooperation with ASEAN.

Japanese officials told the Chief Minister that JICA is keen on supporting development of smart cities and on technology transfer to MSMEs.

The Chief Minister said that collaboration could be worked out through the Joint Task Force comprising the government of AP and Government of Japan officials. A follow-up visit of the Chief Minister to Japan will be planned shortly, the release added.
