After being caught in the eye of the storm for its doormat with the Indian National flag printed on it, global e-commerce retailer Amazon abased itself again by disparagingly selling slippers with Mahatma Gandhi's face printed on them. It is selling Gandhi flip flops for roughly 17 dollars.

The slippers have been made by an American online retailer CafePress and is available on Amazon.com. When DNA contacted BJP’s spokesperson Nalin Kohli the response was,” Gandhi is an ideal in the world and it is not something which can be trampled around. This should be brought to the notice of the authorities and correction must take place".

Speaking to DNA former diplomat and JDU MP Pawan Verma said,” This is unacceptable. Indian government must show annoyance. I congratulate Sushma Swaraj for her intervention on the flag issue but this too should be taken up.” The sentiment was echoed by the Congress. “This matter should be resolved immediately like the Indian flag doormat issue. The government needs to intervene,” said Congress spokesperson RPN Singh.

The online platform which is being called a regular offender by twitter users, was reprimanded a few days earlier by Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj for its previous stint of selling doormats with the national flag print.

Swaraj had demanded an apology and warned that the government would not grant visa to any Amazon official and also revoke visas issued earlier. Swaraj stated, "Amazon must tender unconditional apology. They must withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately." She added, "If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian Visa to any Amazon official. We'll also rescind the Visas issued earlier."

Indian's, who regard Gandhi as the father of the nation and trailblazer in leading the country to independence, were outraged and took to twitter to express their disapproval over this insulting product.
