Airtel starts offering 5GB extra broadband data for post-paid and DTH customers

Airtel has started this new scheme presumably to counter competition from Reliance Jio.

 In a fresh move to keep away threat from Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced a scheme to offer 5 GB additional data for its every post-paid broadband or DTH customers.

"This is a gesture from us to thank our broadband customers for giving us an opportunity to serve them. Along with the unlimited free calling benefit on our landline, customers can now make the most of their Airtel broadband with the free additional data benefits," Bharti Airtel (India) CEO Homes, Hemanth Kumar Guruswamy said in a statement. Under 'myHome Rewards' scheme, Airtel is rewarding all its broadband homes with 5 GB free additional data for every Airtel postpaid and/or digital TV (DTH) connection in their home/family.

"The more connections you have the more free data you get," the statement said. If an Airtel broadband home has two Airtel postpaid mobiles and one Airtel digital TV connection then 15 GB additional data will be added to their broadband account every month, it added. Customers can use the myAirtel app or visit myhome section to register their connections and claim the myHome Rewards. Airtel has 37 lakh landline customers at the end of May 2016.
Reliance Jio has been able to attract 15 lakh users on its network by offering free unlimited calling and 4G data for 90 days on trial basis.

In mid-July, Airtel started offering up to 67 per cent more 3G and 4G data to its customers at same price which was followed by Idea Cellular and Vodafone later.
