In its single largest component sourcing deal in India, plane maker Airbus has signed an agreement with Bengaluru-based Dynamatic Technologies Ltd for sourcing flap-track beams for its wide body A330 family aircraft.
The agreement has elevated Dynamatic Technologies to a global tier-1 supplier in Airbus's list. The company has been manufacturing flap-track beam assemblies for single-aisle A320 family on a global single source basis as a Tier-2 supplier, since 2010.

Through its Tier 1 suppliers, Airbus also is engaging with Indian companies such as Tata, Mahindra and Aequs – which manufacture sub-assemblies and detail parts across Airbus programmes. Airbus has several ongoing engineering projects with Indian companies including Infosys, HCL, Geometric, Tech Mahindra and others that provide engineering services for various aircraft programmes, including the A380 and A350 XWB. In addition, Sonovision-Aetos in Bangalore is a dedicated centre for Airbus Technical Publications.

According to the conditions of the contract, Dynamatic Technologies will have to assemble all flap track beams from its Bengaluru facility in the first phase. Further, it will also be responsible for the entire supply chain for flap track, including sourcing materials, manufacturing and final assembly.

"India is one of the fastest aviation growth markets in the world and it will be one of the largest in the next 20 years. Airbus industrial partnerships in India span across engineering, manufacturing, R&D and services. Airbus partnership with Dynamatic signifies our commitment towards developing the Aerospace supply chain in India thereby supporting thousands of highly skilled jobs in India," said Srinivasan Dwarakanath, managing director of Airbus India.

"Through these partnerships, we can proudly claim that there's a bit of 'Make in India' in all our aircraft programmes." In recent years, there has been a marked increase in Airbus sourcing from India, with more than $400 million worth sourced in 2014.

According to the company website, Airbus's industrial co-operation with India began in the 1980s when an agreement was reached with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) to manufacture forward passenger doors for the A320 aircraft. HAL now produces half of all A320 forward passenger doors.
