After New Delhi, Ola, Uber drivers in Chennai go on strike alleging 'exploitation of labour'

The strike by Ola and Uber's drivers had just concluded in the national capital and in Bengaluru, now drivers of the two app-based taxi service have gone on strike in Chennai citing falling incentives, stiff performance targets and 'exploitation of labour', a report by The Times of India said. 

According to it, the members of Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) have called for a two-day strike with a a list of 13 demands that include letting the state government set minimum fares, halting addition of new cars due to oversupply and easing the performance parameters, they would "picked the state transport commissioner's office on Wednesday."

The trade union wats the state to fix minimum fare at Rs 100 for 4 km and Rs 17 for every kilometre after that. 

While San Francisco-based Uber and Softbank-backed Ola fight it out for market share in the country, they have been engaged in a price war often angering the drivers of state-run auto rickshaws and taxis who accused them of stealing their daily wage. However, as the two get more aggressive, performance targets have been made tougher, fares have fallen, incentives have fallen. 

Currently, in Mumbai Ola charges Rs 8/ km for its Micro cabs which is less than an auto rickshaw's minimum fare. Drivers in New Delhi had gone on a indefinite strike recently saying that at current fare levels, it was not viable for them to drive their taxis.
