Adani Power's boiler pipe burst at Mundra plant leaves 21 workers injured

The company's shares were down nearly 1% on the BSE despite a firm trend in the domestic equity markets.

A boiler pipe burst at Adani Power Limited's Mundra plant has left 21 workers injured 

The thermal pipe burst and hot water spilt in the Kutch district plant of Gujarat on Wednesday.

Out of the 21 workers, 13 workers suffered serious injuries, out of which at least eight of them sustained more than 60% burns.

"Twenty-one persons have been injured, with at least two sustaining more than 70% burn injuries. Six persons have sustained more than 60% burn injuries," Kutch (west) superintendent of police D N Patel said.

The 13 workers who suffered serious injuries were taken to Ahmedabad for treatment while others were taken to a private hospital at Gandhidham.

The incident took place in one of the nine units of Mundra Power Plant which had re-opened on Wednesday after a two-day shutdown, Adani Power Limited said in a statement.

The accident happened after "hot water came out from the vent of a flash tank," it said.

"During this process 21 workers have been affected by the splashing of hot water, and the unit has been shut down.

Eight workmen with nominal injuries have been provided first-aid and released," it stated.

"The company has constituted a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team of experts to investigate the incident and submit report within 10 days," it added.
