Seven private airlines, including the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, owe the national airports operator AAI Rs 457.89 crore on account of airport charges as on September 30 this year, government said on Wednesday.

Kingfisher Airlines, which no longer operates and whose flying permit expired about two years ago, had the highest outstanding amount at Rs 294.57 crore in the total dues, as per the figures provided by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. "Private airlines have been paying their dues to government and other agencies. However, dues payable to Airports Authority of India (AAI) for airport charges is placed at Annexure...," Sinha said in his reply.\

Budget carrier IndiGo had an an outstanding of Rs 61.19 crore while full service carrier Jet Airways owed Rs 45.20 crore to the AAI at the end of September 30, 2016, as per the figures in the statement. SpiceJet and GoAir owed Rs 18.79 crore and Rs 28.45 crore, respectively, to the government-run airport firm. Budget carrier AirAsia India and regional airline Air Costa had a total outstanding of Rs 6.08 crore and Rs 3.82 crore, respectively, at the end of September.

However, the security amount deposited by five carriers --IndiGo, Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet and AirAsia India -- with the AAI covers their dues, according to the figures. Security deposit by IndiGo and Jet Airways was Rs 190 crore and Rs 102.98 crore, respectively, against their dues of Rs 61.19 crore and Rs 45. 20 crore, respectively, as per the figures. Similarly, SpiceJet and GoAir had a security deposit of Rs 31.08 crore and 85 crore, respectively. AirAsia India had deposited Rs 13.32 crore RPT crore with the AAI as security amount. However, AAI had only Rs 28 lakh as security fee provided by the Air Costa against its total dues of Rs 3.08 crore.
