iPhone XS Max Review: A camera par excellence

There are certain things you don’t think would ever happen in this world, such as earth without gravity, a world free of religion or a big screen dual-sim iPhone. And yet it has finally happened. Apple for the first time ever has introduced their biggest iPhone (doubt it would get ever bigger than this), the iPhone XS Max.

Bada haitoh behtar hai

The iPhone Max is a 6.5-inch of OLED display, bigger than the iPhone XS and the iPhone X. In fact, this phone is bigger than its Android brethren, such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 at 6.2 inches and Samsung Note 9 which has a 6.4-inch screen.

The screen is lusciously large and scrumptious with a high resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels (~458 ppi density) and a 19.5:9 ratio.

Camera

The XS Max camera is excellent with top-end specs like two 12MP cameras with f1.8 and f2.4 and a front facing 7MP f/2.2 selfie camera. All photos come out impressive even in the dark with minimal light the camera focuses fast. The selfie camera does a real good job by defocusing the background to keep you-the subject in view. However, the algorithm is a tad aggressive where it does try and beautify the face by applying digital makeup so to speak.

Watching videos

Finally, the speakers are actually loud, in stereo and quite clear. You won’t feel the need to grab your wireless earphones unless of course, you are disturbing everyone else around you.

The screen here takes the entire real estate of the phone (except for the notch) which makes the 6.5 screen bigger than others due to no-bezel design. However, expect 1080p (16:9) videos to play with black bars due to video resolution and screen resolution differences.

KhooljaeSIM-sim

The eSIM  is actually not a second physical SIM card that goes into your iPhone XS Max but an electronic one. eSIM tech is enabled currently only by Airtel (only postpaid) and RelianceJio(postpaid and prepaid) in India, so Vodafone or any other telecom subscriber is out of luck. Also, this facility will be software enabled soon, so don’t expect to run out and start with dual-SIM support just yet.

Not-so-fast charging

The word fast is very much relative. Apple really cheapened out here and gave only a 1A charger, meaning your iPhone would take much longer to charge up about 3 hours 30 mins from 0 to 100%. Yes, of course, you’d have to buy a new charger with 2A or above charging capability to bring the time down to half.

Price

It is an Apple product, you don’t ask about the price, you just buy it, like a Picasso painting minus the same kind of resale value. These are the costliest iPhone’s ever, expect to spend anywhere between Rs.1,10,000 to Rs.1,50,000 for 64/256/512 GB version.
