Commentary :
0.0 : Amidst all the tensions surrounding Australian cricket since the last passage of time, the gruelling contest in Dubai, where the visitors managed to provide a resolute resistance, the draw would be very welcome in the Australian camp. Pakistan were on the verge of a thumping victory, but Usman Khawaja stood tall in between that. He had ample support from Aaron Finch, Travis Head and skipper Tim Paine, who held his own to see the draw out. Hello and welcome, for the final Test of this 2-match ser
Pakistan will be feeling the heat, both figuratively and literally. Having victory elude them, from the position they were in, will have raised questions over Sarfraz' captaincy more than anything else. They threw everything at the Kangaroos, but just couldn't find a crack anywhere. More will be expected of Yasir Shah this time around, as the hosts will hope he can scalp heads like he usually does. Plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned for all the updates.
TOSS - Pakistan win the toss and elect to bat first!
Team Changes - While Australia are unchanged, Pakistan have two changes and both are debutants. Fakhar Zaman and Mir Hamza come in for the injured Imam-ul-Haq and Wahab Riaz.
We are ready to begin. Fakhar Zaman will take strike and he is partnered by Mohammad Hafeez. Mitchell Starc as always to take the new ball first up. He has three slips and a gully in place. Here we go..
0.1 : M Starc to F Zaman, Low full toss on the stumps, Zaman drives it back down towards mid on.
0.2 : M Starc to Zaman, First runs in Test cricket for Fakhar Zaman. Full in length and outside off, he pushes it through the covers and takes a single to get going.
0.3 : M Starc to Hafeez, Fires it well wide outside off, moving away, Hafeez has nothing to do with it.
0.4 : M Starc to Hafeez, Good line and good carry on that. Starc lands it on a fuller length outside off and it zips off the deck, Tim Paine behind the stumps collects it at a good height.
0.5 : M Starc to Hafeez, Short of a length outside off, left alone once more.
0.6 : M Starc to Hafeez, Full delivery quite close to off, coming in, Hafeez comes forward and mistimes the drive off the inner half back down the track.
Peter Siddle will share the new ball with Starc. He has two slips and a gully in place.
1.1 : P Siddle to Zaman, Full ball attacking the off stump, played back from the front foot.
1.2 : P Siddle to Zaman, Off the inner half. Zaman looks to drive this full delivery but manages to only mistime it to the left of the bowler.
1.3 : P Siddle to Zaman, Keeps it full once more, blocked out with the full face of the bat.
1.4 : P Siddle to Zaman, Seaming away from outside off, no shot offered from the southpaw.
1.5 : P Siddle to Zaman, A little bit of shape back from Siddle as it lands on middle and off, Zaman goes hard at it and drives it to mid on.
1.6 : P Siddle to Zaman, Angling across and holding its line, good length delivery, pushed defensively down in front of point.
2.1 : M Starc to Hafeez, Loose from Hafeez. Short and wide, a nothing delivery, Hafeez should have left it but he goes after it and almost nicks it behind.
2.2 : M Starc to Hafeez, FOUR! Not in full control at all, but he gets a boundary for it. Shaping away from a back of a length around off, Hafeez gets it off the outer half and past the diving gully fielder to find the fence.
2.3 : M Starc to Hafeez, Fraction straight in line, worked down on the leg side for nothing.
2.4 : M Starc to Hafeez, Scorcher! A searing delivery from Mitchell Starc as he bangs this in short and bangs it hard. Takes Hafeez by surprise who was expecting a full ball. He goes back, can't play at it and it whacks him on the right shoulder, after brushing his thumb.
The physio is out to have a look at Hafeez. He doesn't seem to be looking at the thumb, which is a good sign. He shoulder is the issue, which is definitely hurting. The magic spray is out and it's being treated. Should be fine to continue from the looks of it.
2.5 : M Starc to Hafeez, Keeps it short again and makes it go away from the batsman, it's left alone.
Mohammad Hafeez has been caught out. Marnus Labuschagne has taken an absolute blinder at short leg from the look of it. The umpire wants to make sure though if it's taken cleanly so it's taken upstairs. The soft signal is out.
2.6 : M Starc to Hafeez, OUT! That's just stuck! Wow. What a catch. Superb stuff from Marnus Labuschagne. Australia strike early. Starc bowls this full on the pads, Hafeez flicks this aerially and it's hit hard. Labuschagne, however, positioned there reacts quickly as the ball is hit to him. It bounces off his right knee, then goes off the inside of his left knee and he manages to gobble it up falling down before the ball touches the ground. Replays confirm the same. Very well done.
Azhar Ali walks in at no.3.
3.1 : P Siddle to Zaman, Attacks the stumps by pitching it full, Zaman defends it back down the track.
3.2 : P Siddle to Zaman, Just ahead of a length, on off, blocked with the full face of the bat.
3.3 : P Siddle to Zaman, Comes forward to this fuller length ball and blocks.
3.4 : P Siddle to F Zaman, Touch short, on the stumps, pulled away into the leg side for a single.
3.5 : P Siddle to Ali, Touch full around off, kept out off the front foot and into the turf.
The DRS has been taken quickly. It's for an lbw decision against Azhar Ali. Siddle thinks he has his man. Inside edge to the naked eye. Let's see...
3.6 : P Siddle to Ali, Not out! Big inside edge on that. Poor review to be honest. Siddle comes steaming in and lands it on a length just outside off, Azhar Ali is half-forward to defend and the ball hits the front pad. Loud shout which is turned down. It's taken upstairs after a brief chat as Siddle feels the batsman is out. Paine responds and signals the 'T'. Replays, however, show there is an inside edge. So a good decision from the umpire.
4.1 : M Starc to Zaman, Beaten! Peach from Starc to start off the new over. Really good carry on that one. Zaman is a bit loose. On a good length just outside off. Zaman did not need to play at it but still tries to get bat on ball. The ball took off and beats Zaman's outside edge.
4.2 : M Starc to Zaman, 4 Byes! Strays way down leg and rising as well. Paine tries to grab it by diving to his right but fumbles and concedes four byes.
4.3 : M Starc to Zaman, A bit wide of off this. Zaman again looks to play at it tentatively but again is beaten by the pace and extra bounce.
4.4 : M Starc to Zaman, A bit shorter of a good length angling into Zaman, the southpaw looks to flick but misses to get hit on the thigh pad.
4.5 : M Starc to Zaman, Zaman shoulders arms to let that one through.

5.5 : P Siddle to Ali, On a good around off, defended off the front foot by Azhar.

6.1 : M Starc to F Zaman, FOUR! SHOT! Cracking straight drive by Zaman. Very full ball attacking the stumps. Starc looking for some non-existent swing. Zaman punches it straight for a sweet boundary.
6.2 : M Starc to Zaman, Wide of off, Zaman shoulders arms to let that one through.
6.3 : M Starc to Zaman, Very full again, almost a yorker. Dig out with a straight bat by Zaman. Good pace being generated by the left-hand quick.
6.4 : M Starc to Zaman, Full and on off, Zaman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
6.5 : M Starc to Zaman, Ill-directed bouncer! Starc bangs this in short but gets his angle completely wrong as it strays down leg. Paine does well to swiftly move to his right to pouch it.
6.6 : M Starc to Zaman, Some chin music for the batsman, the southpaw lets that bouncer through to Paine.
7.1 : P Siddle to Ali, Good bounce and carry on offer here. Siddle keeps it marginally shorter than a good length just outside off. Azhar does not flirt with it.
7.2 : P Siddle to Ali, Close! That one came back sharply and almost kisses the off stump before going into Paine's mitts. You can say a good leave now, but that was close.
7.3 : P Siddle to Ali, Similar ball to the first one, easier for the right-hander to shoulder arms.
7.4 : P Siddle to Ali, Left on length and height this. This almost goes over the off stump. It is almost on a good length outside off. It nips back in sharply and goes just on top of the off pole. Close leave again.
7.5 : P Siddle to Ali, On a good length and a bit too wide outside off, Azhar watchfully leaves.
7.6 : P Siddle to Ali, Very close leave again. That is some intense Test cricket. Siddle keeps it close to the off stump, angling into Azhar. He leaves it and the nut goes past shaving the off stump. At the end, well played!

8.2 : M Starc to Zaman, Wide of off, Zaman shoulders arms to let that one through.

8.5 : M Starc to Ali, Errs in line Starc. Fires it wide down the leg side, Azhar leaves it alone.

9.1 : P Siddle to Zaman, FOUR! Stand and deliver. Zaman stands tall to this short of a length ball just outside off and slashes it hard. The ball takes the thick outside edge to fly over the slips cordon for a boundary. Good counter-attacking batting by the southpaw this.
9.2 : P Siddle to Zaman, Very good running by the batsmen. Zaman just taps this good length ball into the cover region and takes off. His partner gives him good quick response and they steal a quick single.
9.3 : P Siddle to Ali, In the corridor of uncertainty, Azhar does well to play that off the front foot and into the ground.
9.4 : P Siddle to Ali, A bit shorter of a good length, angling into Azhar. Azhar flicks it to square leg.
9.5 : P Siddle to Ali, The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
9.6 : P Siddle to Ali, A good ball and a solid back foot defense with a straight bat to end a testing over by Siddle.
Mitchell Marsh comes into the attack.
10.1 : M Marsh to Zaman, No ball. A No ball this but a pretty tight call though. A super ball to start by Marsh except that he has jusy about over-stepped.A good length ball from over the wicket. Lands and nips back in to beats Zaman's inside edge. It almost cut the southpaw in half.
M Marsh to Zaman, Zaman shoulders arms to let that one through.

11.5 : P Siddle to Ali, Bit straighter in line, drifting onto the batsman's [pads. Ali leans across to flick it into the square leg region to go take a single.
11.6 : P Siddle to Zaman, On the pads again but this time it's the southpaw. May be the right-hand left-hand combo has done the trick. Zaman flicks it into the leg side to take a run.
Drinks. Decent start by Pakistan after electing to bat first, however, they would have been happy if Hafeez would have still been there. The opener was a bit unlucky to be caught at short leg off a perfect flick shot. Pakistan would now look to build a strong partnership and go to Lunch without any further damage. Australia on the flip side, will look to get into the Pakistan middle and lower-middle order as soon as possible.
12.1 : M Marsh to Zaman, Two back on the hook for the southpaw. Marsh bangs it in short. Zaman is patient enough to duck under it.
12.2 : M Marsh to Zaman, Good shot this by Zaman. He gets on the front foot and smashes this length ball straight past the bowler. The fielder at mid on does well to chase it down and keep the batsmen to just three.
12.3 : M Marsh to Ali, Jaffa! This will encourage the medium pacer. Marsh lands this a bit shorter than a good length and slightly wide of off. Azhar looks to play at it due to the angle but is beaten as the nut deviates away from him on landing. Marsh can be dangerous as he comes up with such deliveries every now and then.

14.4 : M Marsh to Ali, Fuller and straighter on off, Ali drives it to mid on.

18.3 : Jon Holland to Zaman, On the pads of the southpaw, Zaman flicks it to deep square leg to come back for the second.
18.4 : Jon Holland to Zaman, Lovely ball this from Jon. He gives it a bit more air but lands it a bit shorter than full length. Zaman comes forward looking to keep it out but the ball spins in sharply. Beats his inside edge and raps him on his back foot and goes to first slip. The Aussies go up in an appeal but not out given. They are not confident enough to go for the DRS and rightly so.
18.5 : Jon Holland to Zaman, Dropped! Will that prove costly for the Kangaroos? Zaman skips down the track to this tossed up ball on middle and off. The southpaw flicks it uppishly to straight to the man at short mid-wicket. Marnus Kabuchagne stationed there tries to catch it with both hands around 6 inches above the ground. The ball hits his palms and drops out. The youngster cannot believe it. An unbelievable catch to dismiss Hafeez and a simple catch dropped. Hmm...

19.4 : N Lyon to Ali, Comes forward and keeps it out off the front foot.
19.5 : Lyon to Ali, OUT! GONE! Caught and bowled. Lyon strikes and brings an end to Azhar Ali's stay in the middle. Soft dismissal, really. Short, flat and spinning in from outside off, Azhar Ali goes back and punches it uppishly right back to the bowler. It goes off the inside half and Lyon takes a simple catch. With this wicket, Lyon becomes the 5th highest wicket-taker for Australia in Tests.
Haris Sohail, the man in form, comes in to bat.
19.6 : N Lyon to Sohail, OUT! Two in two for Nathan Lyon! The turning point of the game? The momentum is surely in Australia's favour now. Switches to around the wicket and tosses the off break around off, Sohail comes forward to push it away and he can't keep it down. Hands a sharp catch to Travis Head at silly point, who takes it well. This is a big wicket for the tourists.

21.2 : N Lyon to Shafiq, OUT! There's a spike on Ultra Edge and the on-field call has to be overturned. Lyon on fire here. He tosses this up on middle and off, it turns in as Shafiq looks to defend off the front foot. It goes off the pad and Labuschagne at short leg takes it. The Australians think there's an inside edge as well and they appeal. Umpire S Ravi is unmoved. So, the DRS has been taken and it goes to the third umpire. Replays show there is indeed an edge and Asad has to walk back.
Babar Azam is the next man in.
21.3 : N Lyon to Azam, Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
21.4 : Lyon to B Azam, OUT! Oh dear! What is happening here? Nathan Lyon has already bagged a 4-fer and he's not even finished 5 overs yet. Absolutely unbelievable what's going on here. A poor shot by Babar as well to be honest. Lyon loops it up outside off, Azam comes out to play the expansive drive and leaves a big gap between bat and pad. It goes right through the gate and disturbs the furniture behind. Pakistan are in a real slump now. Lyon now is the 4th highest wicket-taker for Australia in
Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed to bat next.

23.2 : N Lyon to Ahmed, Tossed up ball on off, Ahmed defends it coming right forward.
Third umpire call for a run out at the striker's end. The batsman in question is Fakhar Zaman.
23.3 : N Lyon to Ahmed, Just in! The new rule has saved the southpaw. Sarfraz punches this into the cover region and takes off. Zaman is a bit slow starting but responds. The fielder at covers picks it and throws it to Paine who whips the bails off and Zaman is diving to get back into his crease. The umpires go upstairs to see the replays and decide on the run out. Replays show that Zaman is lucky that he drags his bat inside the crease and then the bat bounces up. However as per the new rule if

Rocks back and across to this shorter delivery outside off. Zaman punches it hard through the cover region and the man in the deep has no chance to stop it. That's LUNCH ON DAY 1!
The first session of this 2nd Test has been dominated by Australia or should I say, by Nathan Lyon. The offie has had a dream start to this match as he has managed to dismiss four Pakistan batsmen giving away just 12 runs in his 7 overs. After Mohammad Hafeez's unfortunate dismissal, the pair of Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali built a 52-run stand to get the innings back on track. However, soon after, the hosts were simply demolished by Lyon as he took four wickets, also barely missing his hat-trick.
... Day 1, Session 2 ...
We are back for the post Lunch session as the umpires and the Aussies make their way to the middle. The Pakistan pair of Fakhar Zaman and Sarfraz Ahmed also stride out to the center with the latter taking strike.

After how the first hour of this opening day panned out, you'd have wondered if they would even get to 200, let alone close to 300. A fine effort from skipper Sarfraz and debutant Zaman to steer their side to safe waters after their top and most of the middle order were torn apart by Nathan Lyon's 4-fer in the morning.
The 147-run stand between Zaman and Sarfraz (both of whom missed out on tons) set the tone and it seemed like the hosts would take the game away completely, but an unexpected weapon in Marnus Labuschagne broke that stand and the leggie managed to bag 2 more after that. It helped the visitors to somewhat come back in the game, but those late runs from Yasir Shah saw Pakistan get close to 300, which would disappoint the Australians.
Tim Paine's rather defensive captaincy is a major cause for that. When Pakistan were reduced to 57/5, he did not apply the kind of pressure he should have and let the opposition batsmen score freely. It could really cost him and his side. Though, plenty left in this game. Will be interesting to see how his batsmen see off the remaining time before Stumps today with the ball turning and gripping like it is. Should be fun.
