It was my second trip to Ireland and this time, I decided to do the Glendalough and Kilkenny castle tour, which included a walk along the P.S I Love You movie path.

While the main focus of the tour was Glendalough (known for St. Kevin's magnificent monastery) and Kilkenny (where Kilkenny beer comes from), the hour-long P.S I Love You walking tour is etched in my memory. I had read the book and watched the movie seven times, but strolling down the Irish countryside and recognising the spots where some of the scenes were shot, brought the book and film alive. We began early in the morning; it was freezing, as we were in the middle of winter. The rain didn't make it any better. But the green countryside was stunning enough for us to brave the weather.

We started the tour in the area where the story of Gerry (Gerard Butler) and Holly (Hilary Swank) began; the first time he met her 'in all her colours', when she lost her way in Ireland. As we followed their path, the flashback in the film when Gerry and Holly walk along on either side of the road, crossed my mind.

Gerry's 'fort'

From there, we headed to Gerry's 'fort', where he 'did all his big thinking and where Holly read the letter given to her by Gerry's mum. We ended the movie tour at Whelan's, the pub where Gerry and later, William Gallagher (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) sang Galway Girl. But there are pubs at every corner and we decided to explore further; most of the touristy ones have Celtic nights as well as play songs from the movie. If you don't have two left feet or even if you do, give some of the folk dances a go.

Romantic and pretty, my heart broke when it was time to leave the charming city. But I've made up my mind; I'm coming back and next time, I'll follow Gerry and Holly's path with my special someone, whom incidentally, I met in Ireland.
