Rambo 4
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Paul Schulze
Director: Sylvester Stallone
Rating: *

John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is back after 20 years of living in the jungles of Northern Thailand, near the Thai-Burma border.

He conveniently happens to be the only person in possession of a longboat able to transport a group of human rights missionaries to the refugee camps surrounded by the dreaded Burmese military.

Rambo, persuaded by persistent Sarah (Julie Benz) does the job and two weeks later learns of their captivity. That's reason enough for him to go on yet another rampage...

Frankly, nothing has changed since Rambo went to Afghanistan (Rambo 3) and wiped out America's enemies.

The set-up is almost the same, it follows the tried and tested path of the earlier editions, the motivations are suspect, logic comes at a premium and yeah, the killing just goes on and on.

Guns, chemical bombs, detonators, grenades, gross torture methods, you name it and they all appear in quick succession to facilitate the barbaric and reprehensible routines that filmmakers have begun substituting for genuine action.

Even the picture post-card cinematography can do little to relieve the tedium experienced as a result of witnessing a relentless barrage of barbaric acts.
