Aggar
Direction:
Ananth Narayan Mahadevan
Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Udita Goswami
Rating: *

In Ananth Mahadevan's 'Aggar' everyone is a psychiatrist, a psychopath or just plain nuts. Sometimes, they could be a combination of any two or all three. And that's not all that's scary. What's even more frightening is the complete lack of any acting talent through the whole two hours with the exception of Tusshar Kapoor who sincerely tries.

While woodenness comes as no surprise from Udita Goswami, who performed half decently only in her first film 'Paap', it sure is shocking from Shreyas Talpade whose singular lack of expression makes one wonder if he reserves all his capabilities for Nagesh Kukunoor with whom he did 'Iqbal' and 'Dor'.

'Aggar' elicits a strong sense of déjà vu, so similar is it to the same producer and director's 'Aksar'. Once again relationships are not all they seem and relying heavily on coincidence, a story of illicit romance, betrayal, obsession and terror is built. The only difference is here the denouement is somewhat of a surprise.

Aryan (Tusshar) is accused of murdering his girlfriend Nisha (Sophie Chowdhury), after he finds her in bed with another man. He is proved insane and sent to the asylum. Aditya Merchant (Shreyas), a psychiatrist, gets the court to release him because he thinks he can treat him. Aditya is having problems with his super successful wife Jhanvi (Udita) who runs an event management company. Aryan meets Jhanvi and begins to work for her. They get close and he becomes obsessively possessive about her.

Many misunderstandings, confrontations and clarifications later everything comes to a head, evil intentions are discovered, people get killed and the boy gets the girl. The relief is palpable among the eight odd patrons in the cinema when the end credits roll and all those dead in the film get up and dance with gusto. So much for any sense of reality or involvement!
