Café Mangii
|
We dropped by Café Mangii for lunch, and since I am back to keeping a check on my health-o-meter, I decided to for the best ‘health-meets-taste’ option and I wasn’t disappointed with the continental fare I had there at all.
We started off with Cajun chicken and a mushroom starter, which looked a bit too oily. But the taste was perfect and since it was all cooked in olive oil, the little excess of it didn’t bother us, as it was non-fattening. This encouraged us to indulge our taste-buds freely without feeling too guilty about piling on the extra calories and so we chewed on. The stuffed chicken was cooked well with the mushroom stuffing that was slightly dry and was served with mashed potato.
For the main course, we had the chargrilled chicken that had vegetable stuffing. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was just right, not too spicy nor sweet. The first course of the Penne Alla Romana was scrumptiously cooked in white wine porcini cream sauce with wild mushrooms. The optional addition of chicken wonderfully balanced the finely textured-sauce, which so delicately coated the pasta to perfection.
As for the portions, I must say that they were strictly decent, but you might need a starter to go with your main course, as one dish in itself is not too filling. What I really liked is that the service here is intelligent, they are always around, but not intrusive at all. The staff is well-experienced, clued about all the dishes and wise with their recommendations. So you feel like you are in safe hands and don’t mind trying what they recommend.
Overall, the ambience is classy. The décor is wooden, young and contemporary and it has a very youthful energetic vibe about it, which puts you at ease. It’s the kind of place you’d want to hang out with your friends. What I think also works in the favour of the restaurant is the location. It’s easily accessible and is in an area, which is anyway a hub for youngsters to hang out. For those seeking to share a more private meal, there’s an upper section too, which is quite away from the hustle bustle of the young crowd.
