Name: Kambakkht Ishq
Music Director: Anu Malik, RDB, Salim-SulaimanRecord
Label:Eros Music
Rating: ***
Anu Malik failed to come out with a hit album since Main Hoon Na. But Kambakht Ishq is much better than his last dud Love Story 2050. But the main highlight of this one is RDB who have done yet another song for Akshay Kumar after Singh Is King. Om Mangalam is the number with the punch here.
The follow-up song on the CD Lakh Lakh is a typical Punjabi number sung by Neeraj Shridhar who has sung for Akshay in recent times. But it's a lackluster one. Anu turns to his favourite Alisha Chinai for Bebo. Bebo mai bebo, dil mera lelo -- it's a little cheesy, isn't it?
But the track has some great electro beats. The song reminds you of those old Anu numbers like Sexy Sexy, just revamped and repackaged with some new sounds.
Newcomer lyricist Anvita Dutt Guptan tries hard to put some punch into the track Kambakht Ishq with English lyrics like Kamabakht Ishq screws you in more ways than one! It has become fashionable to put words like these into a Hindi song and it can work when you have a fun track like this one.
Shreya Ghosal and Shaan do a good job of a simple romantic song Kyun which comes as a break after the masala tracks. The remix versions of Lakh Lakh -- an electro Dhol house mix by Eric Pillai, Bebo and Kambakht Ishq by Kilogram K&G get racier and are set to rule the night clubs.
Salim and Sulaiman Merchant's background score in English sung by Karsh Kale and Anushka Manchanda Welcome to Hollywood finds its way into the album too. It's well done and it's refreshing to hear the voice of an independent artist like Karsh.
Overall
All in all it's a full masala album catering to the dance floor. Nothing that will stay with you once the movie has come and gone. However, don't be surprised if it becomes the biggest grosser this year.
Film: New York
Record Label:Yash Raj Music
Music director: Pritam, Pankaj Awasthi
Rating: **
The CD kick starts with Hai Junoon, the number which has now become famous as probably the 26th song copied by music director Pritam and this time from an Indonesian artist.
Nonetheless when a song is catchy, few people really care about whether it was lifted from somewhere else. So this one reminds you of Jane Kyu from Dostana and is likely to be often played on the car stereo. The remix version of the same song immediately brings to your mind a specially shot video.
The second song Mere Sang sung by Sunidhi Chauhan is just about okay. It's situational and could grow on you once you watch the film. It's remix doesn't really add any value to the song either. Tune Ne Jo Na Kaha is a sad love song sung by Mohit Chauhan. Mohit hasn't got a great song to play around with like he did with his previous hit numbers. Also, this song has a hangover of Chal Chale from the film Woh Lamhe.
Apart from these three Pritam tracks, there's one composed and sung by Pankaj Awasthi with lyrics written by Junaid Wasi. Aye Saaye Mere seems out of place with the rest of the tracks which are western compositions.
The lyrics are amazing and the beats are good. Sandeep Shrivastava has done a decent job with the lyrics in this album but nothing outstanding. The two theme songs Sam's Theme -- a soft rock number and the New York theme -- which is a stark number with a great fusion of the electric guitar and the African beats by Julius Packiam are of great quality.
But it still ends up as an average album. Pritam lets you down.
