As International Women’s Day celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the members of the IMC Ladies Wing commemorate over 40 years of their organisation’s existence with a women’s conclave today.

Among the celebrities expected to participate in Impact, the conclave are Priya Dutt, Chanda Kochhar, Lillete Dubey and Additional Solicitor General of India Indira Jaising who’s expected to fly down from Delhi.

Also attending will be Sabira Merchant and Arti Surendranath. Says Sabira who’s set to compere the event, “One big aspect of this conclave is that Indira Jaising will help launch a cell for poor and marginalised women who have no recourse to legal aid. Which means that every bai or ayah with no access to the law can have her case taken up for free. Of course there will be a screening process.”

Arti Surendranath, who helped design the invitations for the conclave, informs, “There’s also a microfinance cell being launched at the conclave today that will help women learn job skills and set up businesses.”

Smita Dandekar, currently the president of the IMC Ladies Wing feels that the function of her organisation is primarily social outreach. “During my time with the IMC I have seen entire households in the slums turn around after the woman has learnt skills and started earning for her family,” she says.

Adds Rajyalaxmi Rao, chairperson, “We hope to have Justices Srikrishna and Sam Variava in attendance at the conclave. Besides this our annual conclave we also help the more privileged women of society on a monthly basis through talks given by experts from every walk of life.”

Other members of the committee who’ve helped bring about this conclave that represents the efforts of 1,900 members of the organisation include Vanita Bhandari, Parvez Agarwal, Priti Maria, Bharti Gandhi, Darshana Doshi and Susha Shah.
