Are you going to put away that recent black pullover or coat or the black party shirt that doubled up as a formal outfit? Because according to a news report, colour consultants find,‘Black clothing highlights dark lines under the shin, shadows around the eyes and face and can make the wearer look older. Black outfits may have long been appreciated for making the wearer look slim but the colour can also highlight dark lines and wrinkles and wearing next to the face brings out the worst.’
So do Indian designers agree? If yes, is there a new colour code on the anvil?
Neeta Lulla votes for red. “Wine red (Burgundy) is a strong colour that conjures up a range of seemingly conflicting emotions from passionate love to violence and warfare. Due to its intensity the colour can be projected as stark, stunning, glamorous or sombre. A keen use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element and that’s the beauty of the colour.”
Kunal Rawal disagrees. He says, “I think no colour or garment worn can make your face look wrinkled or bring out the worst. People with wrinkles will look like people with wrinkles and people with good skin will glow. Black is definitely sliming but as a colour it attracts less attention than others and highlights the face.”
While Krishna Mehta feels black is stylish, he says there’s another colour that rules. “Hot pink! It makes you look young. It has that fresh, bubbly and glistening appeal that decelerates your age making you look youthful, trendy and vibrant. Pink suits every complexion, irrespective of one’s age.”
Mandira Wirk says there’s no need to hide or feel shy about wrinkles. “Personally I love colours and I feel everyone should wear bright ones. Blue, green, red — all of them make you stand out if worn properly and if you team them up with the right accessories. Bright colours make you look thinner and show that you are joyous and lively.”
