Next time you make friends with anyone you don’t know too well, or/and you update your online profile, beware! You might just be inviting thieves to your house. Yes, burglars are now using social networking sites to find out whether the target is at home or way, suggested a recent study.

For most of us social networking platforms are nothing less than avatars of our personality and we love to announce to the world— by tweeting constantly or posting pictures of the places we are going to. But thisapparently gives robbers an easy chance to plan thefts. And not only do they benefit from updated whereabouts, they are also being updated on current acquisitions. As celebrity lawyer Vibhav Mittal rightly points out, “You cannot be blaming the networking sites here. If you expose yourself too much, there is always the risk involved.

“There needs to be self-imposed restrictions. You should understand that Facebook,Twitter etc. are your connect with the public and you have the power to decide what is the limit of info you want to share,” says Vibhav. “It’s like saying a certain drug can help cure you in a correct dosage, but it can kill you if you overdo it. It’s all about drawing the limits. Your innocent outbursts on the web can prove detrimental,” he adds.

Amused by this, funny man, actor Cyrus Sahukar quips, “I really want to try this. I’m going to post it on my Facebook and Twitter profiles that I’m out and actually sit hiding in my house.” He continues, “Or I think people should reiterate the message as ‘Hey, I’m away for a vacation, but have my Rottweiler at home…missing him much’.”Actor Vir Das, who’s kind of addicted to Twitter and keeps updating his status very often, says, “Twitter is like my second personality, though on Facebook I generally only like poking people… I’ll be careful of what I tweet now.”
