If you have been wondering whether to get your ears pierced then you should probably just go ahead and do it. Don’t fear what people will say or think because they may not really have a good idea about style. In fact, men’s earrings are considered quite sexy by a lot of women.
According to stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, earrings on men can make a strong style statement. “They (earrings) are almost like a tattoo; if you wear them, then you are making some sort of a declaration about your personality. It can be that you want others to perceive you as a cool person or as somebody who is confident to live life on his own terms.”
But whatever your reason is, choose earrings to suit your face otherwise you may look like a disaster,” she says. Shroff believes that earrings look very hot on men with a rugged look. It’s also important to match the earrings with the occasion.
For an office
environment diamond ear studs are best suited as they look neat and prim for formal occasions. But the style quotient apart, there is also a general perception in our society that a man who wears earrings seems rowdy and of indecent character. Ankur Arora, a marketing professional has felt that. “As part of my job profile I have to meet many clients every day so I received a scolding from my boss the day I got my ears pierced. I was quite confident of my look but he thought that my earrings would drive all the clients away,” admits Arora.
Designer Ana Singh doesn’t believe in this theory and considers it a personal point of view. She says, “Earrings in India have long been associated with the Rajput clan and royalty in general. If you happen to go to any one of the parties in Jaipur, you will see many Rajput men wearing a bandhgala with big earrings. Since Rajputs have been warriors, earrings make them look all the more macho and handsome, so it depends how well you are able to carry it off,” she explains.
How to wear
Earrings can be worn in both ears or just one ear, depending on your choice. Though the right ear been popularly perceived to be associated with a particular sexual orientation, that really could just be a myth.
“I have seen Salman Khan wear an earring only in his right ear and he is certainly not gay. My friends teased me when I got my right ear pierced but because I am confident, they have nothing more to say,” says Pallav Medhi, an advertising professional, who was inspired by Salman to get his right ear pierced.
