Cricket fever kicks off tomorrow with the much-awaited World Cup and if you’re the kind who doesn’t like to miss a single match, here’s something to add to the fervour. Just bite into the teams or players of your choice. That’s right, it’s possible as city restaurants get into the sporty mood with dishes and drinks named after players and countries.

A six for savouries
If you’re a Sachin Tendulkar fan, head to Barcode 053 that’s got a Tendulkar’s Vada Burger (veggie) and a Tendulkar’s Chicken Vada Burger (with shredded chicken spices and yogurt, deep fried and topped with a slice cheese and green chutney). If that’s not enticing enough, tuck into Australian, West Indies and New Zealand ones, with the spices and flavours that are special to each country.

In addition, while country-favourite torrps are on the menu in accordance with each game, as the play changes, Miro Lounge is offering a chance to get into the spirit of things with chilled drinks and a platter of daily changing tapas which will reflect the cuisine of the countries playing the game. Says Chef Anurag Bali, food and beverage director at Svenska Design Hotel,  “For example, if India is playing, we’ll have starters from the tandoor and if England is playing, we’ll have their authentic English pub snacks including mini bangers and mash.”

Wet pitch too!
As the crowd gets cheering, a few eateries are planning to get folks shaken and stirred with heady cocktails and more to liven things up. While Bonobo bar has a round of fun drinks on the itinerary, Elbo Room is also planning to have a cocktail of every team playing the World Cup. Want to sip on The Windies? It’s got rum, pineapple and grapefruit juice and currant syrup or try the Sherminator (named after the English right-hander Ian Bell who cricketer Shane Warne named so after a nerdy character in a Hollywood film).

Sporty and sumptuous, don’t you think?
