They have been in for a while now but they arecertainly not on their way out. With the winter setting in, there couldn’t be a better time to go for layering and waistcoats, particularly, are great way to look good thisseason. Not surprisingly, many a Bollywood actor has donned the waistcoat. Amongst the male actors, Shah Rukh Khan endorses the trend and Kangna Ranaut seems to be leading the pack of female actors.

Designer Nachiket Barve asserts that waistcoats are extremely trendy. “But the biggest downside — if you can call it that — is the fact that not everyone can carry it off, it is meant for slender people and especially those who are not top-heavy.

Also, if you’re too short, then this trend won’t work for you. Otherwise, one can adapt the waistcoat to both the day look and the evening wear look. In the day, you could wear a formal looking waistcoat and for a party, you could opt for a sequinned one,” he points out.

Nikasha Tawadey agrees. There’s a huge variety on offer when it comes to waistcoats. You can get them in different colours and textures. I think it’s that one item of clothing that can jazz up the plainest of outfits, but you need to have that evolved sense of dressing. For example, you could wear a white shirt and blue jeans and pair it with a black waistcoat. Or for that matter, you can also wear a short kurta and a velvet churidar and wear a fitted brocade waistcoat over it — you will get an Indo-Western look,” she says.
Fashion entrepreneur Sangita Kathiwada notes that a well-cut waistcoat should be a must-have for the fashion conscious woman. “Of course, you need to be in shape to be able to carry it off. I swear by it,” she says.

Model Waluscha Robinson says that a waistcoat does help one to accentuate an outfit. “Also, it’s very ideal for the Indian weather — even though you are wearing layers, a waistcoat is not too thick alayer,” she ends.
