From a mere exploration of the human physical contour entailing sensibility as in yoga, artist Venkatesh Pate has extended, transformed and transgressed through his art, to a real realm of beauty and pathos. Astoundingly simple and minimal in rendering, not excluding even the animate and inanimate life generating forms, placed in an isolated setting; make interestingly certain works relate to semiotics, that informs us of the presence of the omnipotent.

Titled ‘No Parking’, the show indicates the lack of space in the surroundings. And as Venkatesh explains, “Not only there is a lack of space for vehicles, but also for humans. Everyone is exhausted today. We are constantly looking for spaces.” He adds, “Everyday I get up in the morning and look out from my window, I can see no free space. All that catches my eye is windows and concrete buildings. I remember when I moved to this place where I am presently living, some 10 years ago, there were trees and greens. But today it’s strapped for breathing space.”

A graduate from the JJ Insitute of Applied Art, Venkatesh has worked as a Creative Director and Graphic Designer in India, France and Australia. Besides, he has also participated in a number of art and design exhibitions across the world. Some of his popular shows include The Forgotten Bombay, The Power of Peace (for the United Nations), The Sovereign Art Foundation (Hong Kong), etc.

While all the paintings harp on the same idea, Venkatesh’s favourite remains the one that shows a “man running and a bird perched on a cable wire”. Having worked on this show for three years now, Venkatesh wishes to take it to other cities as well.
