Anuja Gokhale, Ketki Nikam, Kruti Sanghavi, Poonam Kataria, Rasika Joshi, Rasika Nakashe, Shweta Sawant and Siddhi Jadhav are eight young girls of Sophia Polytechnic Mumbai who have explored various facets of the technique and art form to present a photography exhibition.

Each of them have captured pictures which are abstract, scenes from nature and wildlife and portraits. Interestingly, the girls have christened their group as 9 Eyes.

“You only use one eye while clicking a picture. We are eight of us and the ninth eye is of our professor Vinod Meshram,” says Ketki Nikam, a member of the group.

Ketki is interested in outdoor photography. Her picture depicts a
little girl looking up in the sky and laughing. “I enjoy taking pictures in different lights and believe in going closer to the nature. My interest is widely in outdoor, fashion and table top photography,” she says.

For Shweta, painting is a passion. Her picture shows an old woman carrying a child on her back. “My camera is my brush as well as the canvas. I like to shoot photographs as if they are paintings, apart from what they are, abstract, portrait or landscape,” says Shweta.

Rasika Nakashe loves to click abstract pictures. One of her pictures features the handle of a wooden door with contours of many lines forming in the wood. “Photography is seeing something and knowing how one looks at it. Just looking is an easy part but making it feel differentiates the photographer from others,” she remarks.

Another girl Rasika Joshi is fond of wildlife. Her picture depicts the close-up of a dragon fly. “To shoot insects, you need great amounts of patience, observation and love for nature,” she says.

The girls have dreams in their eyes and hope to make a successful career out of photography. “This exhibition is an effort on our part to tell people about our talent. We really believe in our
talent and are serious about taking up photography as a career,” says Ketki.
