The curious case of Chetan 'epic fail' Bhagat & Twitter

Sunday's Twitter "epic fail" was when Bhagat put up a Father's Day joke which went as follows: Mothers give birth, but ultimately the coke belongs to the guy who puts the coin in the vending machine. Happy father's day ;-)

Well, Chetan Bhagat has once again put his foot in his mouth on Twitter. The #chetanblocks trending topic first came out when he made the major online faux pas of blocking someone who contradicted him; a surefire way of inviting a flame war where just about everyone wanted to jump on the dog pile and squash.

In twitterspeak "<facepalm>" and Chetan, the internet is about democracy or so we like to believe, even for recognised faces.

Next time it would be better to just come up with a really creative gali rather than delete a post. But actually ignore my advice because flame wars are extremely entertaining for the rest of us.

So Sunday's twitter "<epicfail>" was when Chetan put up a Father's Day joke which went as follows: "Mothers give birth, but ultimately the coke belongs to the guy who puts the coin in the vending machine. Happy father's day ;-)

Come on...really? You know they were just waiting for you to put foot in mouth. And then you deleted the tweet!

The fact of the matter is that, if it weren't Bhagat, it would have been one of a million stupid Twitter jokes that probably would have been ignored. Of all the variety of jokes and outraged responses that emerged as a trending topic this is the one I can most relate to:

"RT @vikas_m Chetan Bhagat's jokes are like the ones cracked by that drunk shady uncle at a party in an attempt to fit in with the younger crowd."

Men of all ages do stupid things like this. This is not new.

But I tend to find it more funny than obscene. I mean if everyone threw shoes at that shady uncle at the wedding who gets drunk and starts telling lockeroom jokes you'd feel kind of bad for the guy. Play nice tweeple.
