Starting today, for the next 17 days the whole of India will root for Team India to lift the T20 World Cup for the second time. And it seems that the cricket fever has struck even the art community.

Thirteen artists have portrayed different moods of the game through their artworks and will display them at a week-long exhibition starting today.

Minali Thakker, the curator of the show, says, “This is the cricket season. One tournament ended a few days ago and another one begins today. Right from the family conversations to conversations over coffee breaks in a corporate office, everything is centered around cricket.”

Speaking about artist Manoj Sakale’s artwork showing two kids playing cricket, Minali says, “When a child plays cricket, he does not calculate scores or is concerned about brands. He is playing for fun. And Manoj is trying to convey that this ‘pure fun’ is missing in the game these days.”

Another artist, Vivek Kumarwat, portrays how cricket is a religion in India. Minali says, “His painting suggests that cricket is the dominant power that drives many in the country.” The exhibition is on at the MCA Recreation Centre, Bandra-Kurla Complex, till May 7.
