When an ace guitarist of Carlos Santana’s stature is playing right in front of your nose, you kind of expect to get swept off your feet. As expected, that’s what exactly happened in Bangalore on Friday, when the 10-time Grammy winner cast his “black magic” spell on a crowd of about fifteen-thousand in his maiden Indian performance.

The music aficionados of the rock capital of India were thrilled. So was he. It was a memorable event both for the huge number of fans who turned up at Vladivar Rock to attend the concert and for the star. The crowd was underestimated and overwhelming.

The 65-year-old legendary guitarist spoke to the sea of audience: “This will definitely not be the last time India would see me, I am glad that I have got a chance sharing my music live with my fans in India."

His words were as inspiring as his music: “The spirit of music was brought to Bangalore and shared in the right way. I am here to show that everyone can change the world with music.” Santana, who took to stage at 7.15pm, belted out a nonstop performance for a straight foot-thumping two hours. Opening his gig with a tribute track — Stop over in Bangalore, yaleo — he shook the city with his best Black Magic Women setting the mood on a rocking high. It was a double treat when his wife Cynthia Blackman-Santana took to stage producing a magical drumming single for a non-stop 15 minutes. Along with him were his band line-up of Raul Rekow, Milton Chambers (drums), Karl Perazzo (percussions), Benjamin Rietveld (bass), Anthony Lindsay (vocalist), William Ortiz (trumpet), Thomas Maestu (rhythm guitar), Jeffry Cressman (trombone), and David Mathews (keyboard).

His other recitals included the smooth Maria Maria and Gypsy Queen. What next? The legend moves up north to perform at the Formula One event and enchant the capital.
