Mumbai:
l "It's been just seven months in Mumbai and I have been able to explore various interesting places across the city, make new friends and enjoy fun-filled weekends with lots of activities to keep me busy every weekend," says Pravar Saxena, 28, business analyst in a multi-national firm.
l "I simply loved the pub hopping activity around town in an open bus and met many like-minded people. Thanks to the weekend planner mailed to me, I got to know about an interesting activity that I could be part of," says Alisha Sharma, 24, risk analyst working in a bank.
Come weekends and individuals from all walks of life often wonder how to spend it in the best possible way. Most laze at home or end up watching a movie, shopping or going out to a restaurant. Giving an impetus to such individuals to spend their weekends in a much more enriching way is Cornucopia Weekend Planners (CWP).
An initiative that researches, compiles and informs members about events and activities taking place across the city during weekends, it keeps members abreast through e-mails.
After the initial litmus test in October 2008, CWP began functioning full-fledged since April 2009. What began with 30 to 40 members, it now has over 4,000 members in its database.
"I observed that most of the working professionals were excited about weekends but not many planned anything on those days. I decided to fill this gap," says Aditya Chauhan, 29, owner, CWP.
Apart from having working professionals from all walks of life as its members, it also has its share of glamour quotient with stars like Arya Babbar, Ahana Deol, Nishant Arya and Ananya Dutta as part of the mailer list.
"The procedure involves filling up an online form and choosing any of the 12 broad areas listed. Thereafter, information about an event is filtered according to the preference and sent to one's inbox by Wednesday. This gives the individual ample time to plan his/her weekend," informs Chauhan.
"An added advantage of being the member of CWP is that we get discounts ranging from 10 to 50 per cent at several places we visit. I like going to discotheques on weekends and being a CWP member gets me free entry," states Saxena.
Be it hobby classes, fitness activities, NGOs, pubs, restaurants, movies and theatre, a CWP member gets special offers and discounts at all such places.
CWP also organises weekend activities for its members. For example, this weekend they have a trek to Peth Fort and scuba diving for members who opted for adventure sport activities. Outsiders can also avail the facility by paying a certain amount.
Richard Rodriguez, 32, head of IT in a media firm found the martial arts on the beach concept quite refreshing. "A two hour karate session at Juhu beach brought the CWP members together and apart from learning, it was great catching up with other members."
The annual membership fee for CWP is Rs350, a half-yearly membership for Rs200 and an annual membership for corporates for Rs250.
With a weekend planner such as this in your inbox, weekends will never be a dull affair.
