I am sorry — I really can’t say a single thing about my collection yet!” says the Delhi-based fashion designer, Rohit Bal. However, he does let us in on the fact that it’s inspired by modern India.

“The only thing I can tell you is that the collection is inspired by the brand’s Fast & Fabulous line and is for the modern Indian woman who is out there doing everything and still staying strong. And I have kept the Indian aesthetics of fashion intact,” he says.

The collection, which is still under process, is going to have 30 garments, not a number Rohit Bal is used to showcasing. “I agree that the number is a bit large but it befits a finale,” says the designer, adding, “But don’t worry — the choreography will be quick and edgy and no time shall be wasted.”

Talking about the growth in the industry in the past two years, Rohit says that he’s noticed quite a few positive changes. “There is a good crop of young designers who are extremely talented; plus, they are very exacting. They know what they want to design and how to go about it. It’s something that wasn’t there even 15 years ago. Indian fashion has definitely come of age in the past couple of years,” he proffers.

On the topic of new generation designers, Rohit adds that fashion is a process that cannot survive without the constant sharing of information. “There can be no omni-designer. We are constantly learning from the younger generation because their perspective of fashion is different. Similarly, they are learning from us. It doesn’t matter who’s senior or junior, it has to be a symbiotic relationship,” he ends.
