Known for his drapes and elaborate embellishments, Tarun Tahiliani is all set to sizzle on the ramp with his new spring/summer collection that will be unveiled today at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).
Quiz him on what’s the theme behind the collection and he replies candidly, “I never do theme-centric collections. I think the theme becomes the focus of the clothes, which is incorrect. I have seen many designers who include everything that’s ‘in’ just so that it looks pretty with the overall theme. As far as my spring/summer line is concerned, it’s more floaty, light and very strongly summer. In terms of drapes, I think I have moved onto a different level altogether.”
And as someone who has had many a celeb walk for him — last season, he had Deepika Padukone as his showstopper — we can’t help but ask as to who is it going to be this time? To which he says, “Lisa Haydon is opening and closing my show. I think she’s really beautiful.”
If that’s not enough, Tarun will be showcasing corsets, saris, gowns and lots of dresses. He adds, “There will also be printed denims. I will also have Indian wear which will be shown in the last part of the show. In fact, the last segment is a kind of sequel to what I showcased at Lakme Fashion Week. All in all, the garments are ready-to-wear and nothing is couture.” In terms of presentation too, Tarun has a master plan when he reveals, “The clothes would be on painted bodies with a lot of muslin and chiffon. I believe every collection should be a revolution. In this collection of mine, about 80% garments have zero embellishments.” Well, that seems to be a first of sorts! Guess we will have to wait and watch how Tarun will impress one and all with his drapes.
