The 2010 version of the Rann Utsav will be the longest till date, with the event slated to last one whole month this time. Organised by the state government and the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd, the event is likely to see a massive inflow of tourists into Dhordo - a village 70 km away from Bhuj in Kutch. The area will benefit immensely from the fact that actor Amitabh Bachchan promoted the white rann, as part of the Khushboo Gujarat Ki promotional campaign.

The Rann Utsav will be held from December 19, 2010 to January 18, 2011. Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, state tourism minister Jay Narayan Vyas said, "The main event of the Rann Utsav will be organised between December 19 and 22. There will be a total of 400 tents, including 160 AC and 240 Non-AC ones. 100% committed booking has been carried out for all these tents."

Vyas added that tent allotment will complete after allotment to the foreign tourists. "The rent for AC tents will be Rs 8,500 per person and the same for non-AC tents will be Rs7,000," he said.

Vyas further said, "The Rann Utsav will continue even after the main event, till January 18, 2011. However, the number of tents will be reduced to 160, including 75 AC and 85 non-AC ones. The two night-three day package will cost Rs6,000 per person for AC tents and Rs5,000 for non-AC ones, inclusive of meals. This package is getting good response, and about 30 % booking is over by now."

However, he said that the rates will change during the new year celebrations. The rent for AC tents will be Rs8,500 per person and the same will be Rs7,000 for non-AC ones, as part of the special package from December 29 to January 1, 2011.

Dhordo will witness various activities such as paragliding, water sports at Mandvi beach, ten food stalls serving traditional Kutchi delicacies, a cultural programme at Dhordo everyday, and a photo gallery on Kutch. Tent booking will also be carried out through e-mail, using special software.

Vyas informed, "Nearly 500 students from NCC, NSS and Scouts will be visiting Rann Utsav 2010. Moreover, delegates of Vibrant Gujarat Investors' Summit 2011 will also be visiting the festival. A permanent facility will be set up at Dhordo for tourists, in the form of 'Bhungas' - traditional hut-type cottages, in the canyon of Kala Dungar hill."
