Mumbai: Reds, whites, sparkling, rose, port, desert, de-alcohlolised -- take your pick. With over a 100 wines from 14 of the best Indian wineries and a few selected varieties from Australia, Italy, France, Spain, South Africa, Germany and Japan, it's safe to say that you'll find exactly what you're looking for at the city's first ever Mumbai Wine Tasting Festival supported by DNA.
Expecting to attract over 3,000 wine enthusiasts this weekend, participating winemakers and importers are using this event as a platform to introduce many one-of-a-kinds into the market.
Rajeev Samant of Sula Vineyards, one of the participating wineries, welcomes the opportunity to directly interact with the consumers. He says, "Our focus will be our recently launched Sula Mosaic which at Rs330 is the most affordable of Indian wines." However, Sula's trump card at the two-day event will be a Riesling (acclaimed German variety), "India's first ever produced," says Rajeev.
Also participating is Aspri Spirits. Sumedh Singh, CEO, wines divisionsays, "Yes, there will be a lot of domestic wines showcasing their best varieties. We will be bringing to consumers 10 to 12 of the 35 imported varieties in our portfolio which we make exclusively available in India. Also, to mark the occasion, we will be launching a special series called Mumbai Dreams."
But wine drinking is so much more than just sampling from a varied range of brands. So, several allied activities like cheese tasting, karaoke, live music by Muzik Machine and a barbecue cookout are also on the agenda.
