Fashion designer Raakesh Agarvwal, known for his chic and smart sense of designing, is looking forward to add many more feathers to his stylish cap.

For starters, he recently brought his couture line to Mumbai. Ask him if he was nervous making his couture debut in Mumbai and he says that the city is in fact his most favourite in the whole world. “I’m never nervous showing new lines in Mumbai and if I had it my way I’d debut here all the time,” says Raakesh adding that the city has always taken kindly to his experiments with fashion.

Talking about his couture line, Raakesh explains that part of it is the same as what he showed in the Delhi Couture Week but that he has added new pieces to the line as well. “Fifty per cent of the line consists of modern outfits. I also have around 20 super glam saris and two lehangas in the couture line,” says Raakesh. The Indian outfits, he adds, have been adorned with out-of-the-box embroidery techniques and teamed with careful construction and drapes.

“I’ve used Japanese beads on some outfits while a few others have very fine Mukesh embroidery on them. In fact, all those who saw the garments almost couldn’t believe that such patterns are possible in Mukesh embroidery,” says Raakesh.

Ask the designer for his opinion on the every debatable topic of couture versus bridal and he says that in the Indian market bridal is a very important part of couture. “I think it is unfair to pan designers who show bridal outfits in couture shows because bridal is like a subtext of the bigger picture which is couture,” he argues.

Before signing off, Raakesh also informs that like most of his contemporaries, he intends to explore other aspects of designing as well. “I’m planning to launch my accessory line very soon. Interior designing and some international collaborations are also on the itinerary but it’s too early to talk about them,” he concludes.
