Bhuj: The Rannotsav 2009 which will be held on December1-3 is now less than a month away.
It will be organised at a cost of Rs3 crores by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) and the state Tourism department.
Till last year the responsibility including fund raising from the industries was given to the district administration, but this year it was decided that it would be responsibility of TCGL.
However, a huge posse of top district officials headed by district collector and district magistrate RR Varsani visited Dhordo, a far off place in the vast great Rann of Kutch, some 80 km north west of here and another major site Chhardi Dhandh.
A top district officer expressed his displeasure and remarked that if they (TCGL) was disinterested why they were wasting their time when it was not their duty.
The sources said that the organisation work had practically fallen on the district administration this year too.
The sources said that the district collector entrusted organisation work to various district officials and ordered immediate completion of work. Taking this seriously because of the full moon-lit Rann-based festival being brain child of chief minister Narendra Modi, officials have taken up the task of completion of work in the set deadline.
A team of engineers from the state roads and building department headed by executive engineer IS Patel who accompanied the collector have started work to build approach road from Dhordo village, a few kilometres away on the edge of the Rann along with internal roads at a cost of Rs1 crore within the next 20 days.
A sum of Rs40 lakh was spent last year on this. This department is also building a huge 50,000 liter capacity sump for storage of water at Dhordo to supply water to the tent city where VVIPs who would include ministers, top state government officials, foreign envoys in India would live.
The collector also asked his additional collector Gunvant Waghela to ensure that sings boards were put on the entire route from Dhordo to wet land Charidhandh which was has a good flow of tourists.
