A fashion week where Indian designers will show their creations will be held in London from April 9-14, 2010.

Titled the Indian Premier London Fashion Week (IPLFW), this adds to the never-ending list of fashion weeks. Designers such as Anamika Khanna, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna will be participating in the fashion week. They will show their autumn/winter collection for 2010.

Anamika Khanna says, “India is now regarded as a serious player in fashion. There is immense excitement across the world for designs originating from India. We also have an edge over other designers because we have access to traditional Indian handicrafts and workmanship.”

Narendra Kumar adds, “We are very excited that we finally have this platform to showcase our designs and talent to the burgeoning international audience in London.”

Elaborating the concept of the show, organiser Vivek Agarwal says, “Indian designers are on par with international designers in excellence, innovation and creativity. The competence to create a global presence coupled with right opportunity ensures the stay of global demand for Indian fashion. Through this show, we aim to provide our designers an opportunity to exhibit their brilliant creations as well as enhance their brand salability in the international arena.”

He further added, “We have spoken with a lot of International buyers and most of them are delighted at the idea. Apart from designers, there will be also be the best faces, best hair and make-up artistes and the best choreographers from India.”

The brainchild of the idea came from a simple statistic. Vivek says, “Indians in the UK contribute to about 4 per cent of the population and they alone constitute about 6 per cent of the GDP. So why not utilise that spending power.”
