Rohit Bal won’t be seen at the fashion weeks this season. This comes as a surprise because Rohit has never missed any of the fashion weeks in his career spanning over two decades. However, when we probed further we found out that Rohit decided to stay away from the fashion weeks due to a couple of reasons.
He says, “First, I wanted to relax, not have any pressure of bringing out a collection together. And then I have a lot of other projects on my hand. I am tying up with many international brands which will take my label overseas. Also, I am expanding my label; next month I will launch my bag collection with a leather company in India.
Then my restaurant Veda will be open by April in Mumbai. It’s going to be different from my first restaurant. With so much happening, I thought I’d rather concentrate on expanding as a brand than participating in any fashion week.”
So what’s the reason for the sudden expansion plans? Rohit says, “Since the last two years when people have been complaining about recession, I have taken advantage of the situation and bought property. I think it is due to the recession that I have found a new ambition and mission for myself.”
Apart from his business ventures Rohit has started to give his personal life a new-found ambition. He says, “These days I am very selective about partying. Earlier, I would go to every party I was invited for. But now I refuse these invitations. Though a lot of people think that I have become snobbish, it’s for my personal growth that I don’t over-indulge in anything. I am fed-up of partying.
I wasn’t able to manage my energies constructively. I have started believing in the concept of meditation. I don’t shut my eyes and think of the universe. But I focus my thought process when I am working. I want to de-clutter my life. I feel I have taken on way too much that I can handle.”
When asked about his boyfriend Lalit Tehan, he says, “I don’t want to take any name. But my close friends are involved in re-inventing me.”
