As the country is gearing up to celebrate the 63rd Independence Day today, many are also utilising this long weekend as an opportunity to get out of the hustle bustle of the city and relax on the beach front — with Goa being the most popular destination.
Not surprisingly, the destination that everyone seems to be heading towards is Goa. Most people are trying to make use of all the four days starting from Thursday. Such is the rush that many popular joints in Goa are already fully booked.
Apart from Goa, other popular weekend getaways seem to be Kollam, Mt Abu, Shimla, Corbett, Mahabeleshwar and Lonavla.
Karan Anand, head-relationships and supplier management of Cox & Kings Ltd, says, “Republic Day on a Thursday has given travellers a great opportunity to take a short break by extending their weekend. Popular destinations include Goa, Kollam, Mt Abu, Shimla, Corbett, Mahabeleshwar, Lonavla, Jaipur and Mysore. Their proximity to the city of stay as well as the luxury of being holiday spots makes them the ideal weekend getaways.”
Neelu Singh, COO, Ezeego1.com says, “The Republic Day weekend is one of the much awaited extended weekends for a lot of families looking to take a quick break. There are a lot of people who prefer taking short road trips that last not more than five to six hours. So they are going for packages to places like Lavasa, Chiplun, Mahabaleshwar and Ganpatipule apart from regular holiday places like Goa, Kerala and Rajasthan.”
She further adds, “Apart from domestic loactions, we are also witnessing a good demand for international destinations like Dubai due to the Dubai Shopping Festival.”
