'Get your motor running, head out on the highway; looking for adventure and whatever comes your way; Yeah darlin' go make it happen; Take the world in a love embrace; Fire all of your guns at once and explode into space' - these lines from the famous Steppenwolf song, 'Born to be Wild',  are not just simple lyrics for Ahmedabadis -- as more and more people from the city start hitting the highways on their motorcycles, looking out for adventures as a pastime, to take a break from the daily drudgery and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.

Road tripping on motorcycles is a fast growing hobby among the city people. Going to neighboring towns or distant tourist destinations on motorcycles is no more mere vacationing but a means for a different experience altogether. Throughout the year, people in the city are heading out, either alone or in groups, in every direction, on their motorcycles.

Short and long trips
A quick two-day trip is the most popular kind as it could be done on the weekend without any conflict with the work schedule.
Kaustab Misra, (29) owner of a motorcycle showroom said, "Me and my friends either meet up to talk and discuss about motorcycles or head out from the city for a two days trip." After finishing his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, Kaustab was teaching in a premier institute in the city but soon left the profession to get fully involved with his passion for riding and adventure. "We take a road trip usually twice a month," he said.

Swaroop Srinivasan, 24, manager of a store in the city who has just returned from a two days motorcycle trip to Mt Abu with a group of around 24 riders is already planning another two-day trip to Gopnath beach in the next couple of weeks. For the love of long motorcycle trips, Srinivasan has recently bought a 350cc motorcycle. He said, "With the bigger engine my earlier short trips are now growing both in distance and duration." He said, "From two days to weeks, I am taking trips on every opportunity. As soon as time permits I will be going for a 15-day trip to Ladakh this year."

Riding single and in groups
The drivers enjoy both riding in groups and alone. While riding in a group has its own fun and is much safer as any problem that comes on the way could be tackled fast, some drivers enjoy riding alone even more. Nikhil Paul (25), manager in an automobile showroom in the city said, "I enjoy riding in groups but riding alone is like a nirvana. Very often I hit short trips of around 150kms alone."

For other riders like Misra, riding alone is an addiction. Alone, he has undertaken motorcycle trips to Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and many times to the Himalayas. "Riding in groups is for sharing passions that makes me feel good. But while riding alone I am the boss of myself. It gives a great feeling of liberation."

Clubs
There are many motorcycle riding clubs and groups in the city. While some of the prominent clubs include Gun Riders Motorcycle Club and White Collar Riders, there are new emerging groups like Motoroids. While some clubs are more into discussing about technicalities and mechanics of the motorcycles, others prefer to go for as many trips as they can.
