Readers of the magazine Marie Claire, who were angered by a blog maligning overweight people, are protesting against it by staging a "Big Fat Kiss-in".

The blog entitled "Should Fatties Get a Room (even on TV?)", sparked online fury from readers who were aghast that Marie Claire would publish a post that expressed such contempt for the obese.

Blogger Maura Kelly's post was pegged to the CBS sitcom "Mike & Molly", where overweight actors play a couple who meet and fall in love at Overeaters Anonymous.

"I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything," the New York Daily News quoted Kelly as having written.

She later apologized and admitted that she'd been insensitive.

The "Kiss-in" organizers are asking men and women to gather in front of the Hearst Tower near W. 57th St. in Manhattan to "make the statement that love has no weight limit".

The magazine offered a curt response to whether they would be attending the event.

"The opinion was that of a blogger, not the magazine. She posted an apology the same day.  We consider this matter closed," a spokesperson for the magazine stated.
