A plethora of art works ranging from contemporary paintings to conceptual arts and modern sculptures are on display at the Venkatappa Art Gallery.

The exhibition titled ‘Madras Accent’ features artists from Chennai who have contributed to the art traditions of Tamil Nadu. The show reflects the current art trend in Chennai, and the paintings give an insight into the rich culture of the state.

“The works of these artists stand out because of their unique style. There is a definite difference in their work. The paintings clearly depict the rich Tamil culture and literature,” said SG Vasudev, eminent artist.

“They give a lot of importance to details. It is also important to note that they keep up with the current art trend, without losing out on tradition,” Vasudev added.

Theatre personality, Arundathi Nag, said, “It was my dream to become a painter. However, my mother said that if I took up painting at a professional level, I would starve. But I am glad that many artists these days are sticking their neck out and pursuing their passion.”

Seventy-two-year-old Kamala Rajagopal, an art-enthusiast, said: “I want to see the changes that have taken place during the last 30 years”.
