Kate Middleton has helped sales of high-protein snacks to soar in supermarkets, as more and more girls have started following the Dukan Diet which she had been following.

Shoppers desperate to lose weight on the Dukan Diet have snapped up 50 per cent more steak and chicken than they did this time last year, forcing store bosses to increase orders.

Middleton, her mum and her sister are said to have followed the plan ahead of the royal wedding, and other fans include Jennifer Lopez and supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

It promises weight loss of up to 15kg while eating as much meat, fish and fat-free cheese as you like.

High street supermarket Mark’s and Spencer is launching its own range of beef jerky to cash in on the craze.

“We’ve noticed a surge in customers on the Dukan plan looking for high-protein foods,” the Mirror quoted a spokesperson of Mark’s and Spencer as saying.

“As the trend shows no sign of stopping, we thought it was a perfect time to introduce this product,” he added.
