The party season is back in full swing, with the Christmas and New Year festivities knocking at the door. And like most years, partyhoppers are anxious about the deadline for midnight celebrations.
Those of you who are planning to hit the dance floor with vengeance, here is some good as well as bad news. The night parties will continue in the city but with some restrictions.
Last year, the authorities dished out festival bonanza by relaxing the deadline for the celebrations. Secretaries and general managers of various clubs and pubs are hopeful that the deadline will be extended this year too. In 2008, the deadline was extended up to 12.30 am. This year, some have requested the police to extend the closure time up to 2 am, but permission is yet to come.
An official from Bangalore Club said that normally permission details are known a week before the event. “Every year, people want to stay longer for festival parties. Our members have made requests to the authorities to extend the deadline for this year’s celebrations. However, like always, we will abide by the law of the land and police orders will be adhered to.”
Owner of another city pub said that the demand for extending closure time is usually more for New Year celebrations, rather than for Christmas. “Though celebrations do take place before and on the day of Christmas, they peak on December 31. This is the time when we get the maximum numbers of requests from customers to extend the party timings. Extension of timings also depend on the law and order situation of the area. It also depends on the certificate obtained from the excise department,” he added
According to the president of Association of Bars and Restaurants, Pubs & Hotels, Bangalore, Ashish Kothare, midnight is the usual deadline for parties in the city but special requests have been placed to extend the timings during the celebrations. Police commissioner Shankar Bidari, however, said his department has not received any such requests from pubs or eateries.
