The multiple Grammy Award winning artiste, Carlos Santana, who is in India for his maiden show, asserts that he finds Indian music very profound. Excerpts from an interview:

This is your first visit to India right? What is it that you’re most looking forward to?
This is officially my first visit. From 1972 to 1981 I had a spiritual guru, as well. The west desires while India aspires. Aspiration is when you want attraction, I have learnt this philosophy from India. This is something we greatly need in the west.

The news of you playing here has got everyone excited...
I am hungry for colours and sounds. My show is never boring or traditional. It is a two-and-a-half hour presentation that takes you through a large collection of music.

How aware are you of Indian music? Any place/city you’d like to visit?
I think Indian music is very profound, it also has humour, but I like the ragas, meditation music, Indian music, is like exercising. I like to see temples and I like to see textures. I am open to everything. It does not necessarily need to be temple; it doesn’t have to be rich or lavish. It can be simple and modest but really powerful. Stay in your heart and travel in the light.

Any artist you’ve heard of/ are fond of/ would like to work with?
I am 65, and it is not impossible to create music with Lady GaGa, or Adele, or any Indian contemporary artiste as long as it is the right song.

Heard you’re penning a memoir... Tell us more about it.
It will come out next year. It is all about spiritual triumph, and away from the usual tradition of shallow predictable juicy stories. It is more about sharing with the spiritual mechanics and how I was able to grow. My whole life has been one spiritual victory after another. People should know what makes you resilient.

You’ve won multiple Grammys, churned put brilliant music and earned a global fanbase... What’s the next thing on your wishlist?
No whislist as such but looking forward to open new restaurant and release my memoir.
