Q: How did the brand Vani come to be? Please tell us a little about your journey into the fashion business?
A: Having graduated from NIFT, we were privileged to work with eminent fashion designers including Rohit Bal and Manish Arora at the initial stages of our career. Embarking on a new venture came quite naturally to us actually, because we wanted to experiment with designs, clothes and do something new and creative…
Q: You must have faced a few initial challenges — what were they and how do you overcome them?
A: Yes, there were quite a few challenges in the initial stages. Creating an individual signature style, something that our audiences could relate to is imperative and definitely not easy. But with time, things got better and we learnt a lot from our own experiences.
Q: Tell us about your latest collection that’s available at Evoluzione? What kind of garments are there, the colours and the fabrics used.
A: The collection available in Bangalore has a very edgy and happy-go-lucky and fresh summer feel to it; the vibrancy of our collection is reflected in the colours we have used. We’ve worked with colours such as vivid green, tomato orange, suede blue, quite a few nudes and ivory. There is embroidery as well but very matted. We’ve also used hints of very light wool on the fabrics. The primary fabrics used are chiffons, georgette, lycra, some silk and even soft cotton.
We’ve got tunics, kaftans and shift dresses. You can wear them over bikinis, tights and dhoti pants for a really funky look.
Q: Describe the woman who would be the ideal customer?
A: Although the collection is very fresh, apt for the summers with fruity colours used that would appeal to the youth, it’s for anyone who can bring themselves to experiment. And women of all ages want to look and feel their best. Our collections are exclusively designed to compliment the new age contemporary woman, someone who would give attention to detail.
