Namrata Goyal, daughter of business honcho Naresh Goyal  is just another 21-year-old on the surface. Except that she’s not. Having pursued film studies in London, she is training to understand the ropes of her father’s business, besides helping actor-social activist Shabana maasi (Azmi) run her NGO. Goyal and the company employers will take stage in Mumbai, on February 15, to perform Black Comedy, based on Peter Shaffer’s original play.

“I started liking the stage when my mother enrolled me for Kathak classes. And I never really looked back. I am what I am today because of my mother,” Goyal says. Even though she has directed several plays earlier, this one is her foray into professional theatre. As a fairly new entrant into the theatre scene, Goyal looks up to the theatre veterans as her mentors. Her mantra is to do theatre that introduces India to the world.

Although she admits that she was born with a silver spoon, Goyal insists that she was never a spoilt brat: “I had a normal childhood. My mother came from a middle class family, my father was 12 when his house got auctioned, and my parents still work hard. So we always were grounded.” Goyal goes back to being a 21-year-old after work hours: “I spend more time with my friends than my family. I go clubbing, and because I work like a dog, my parents don’t object.”
