From the fashion houses of Stella McCartney to YSL, designers have been busy creating stunning designs on bags, outfits and even evening gowns. The trend seems to have caught on like never before, closer home too.
Recently, fashion guru Prasad Bidapa and designer Deepika Govind, along with model Nicole Faria joined hands to highlight the idea of being eco chic. As part of the third edition of the reality show Let’s Design, three finalists out of the 184 entries showcased their designs that were based on the theme Naturally in Love. As expected, the designers drew their inspiration from nature.
The winner, Govind Kumar Singh, designed a beautiful green jacket made entirely out of waste threads and recycled materials.
“From industrial waste, to reused denims and recycled fabrics, almost any and every recycled item can be made trendy and fashionable if you keep the environment on your priority list. I just had to look around and that’s where I got my inspiration from.” says Govind.
Biodegradable materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp are just some of the eco-friendly fashion materials available in the market. Increasingly, eco-friendly fashion designers are using natural colour cottons, wools and other material to create outfits or vegetable dyes that are safer to make and use. “With the rise of eco-friendly fibers and environmental issues, it is important now more than ever, to promote cotton as a fashion textile,” says Deepika. “What’s better than being fashion forward and also being environment friendly?” she asks.
