Indian Institute of Ahmedabad’s (IIMA) annual cultural festival Chaos 2010 will have a different rhythm this year. Nomad dancers and musicians from Rajasthan and Italy will perform on the first day of the festival on January 28.
A performance by Pandit Biswa Mohan Bhatt, who will be performing Mohanveena, is another of the attractions of day one. For, the performance by the nomad dancers and musicians, the institute has joined hands with ‘Nomadic Orchestra of World’ (NOW) of the CHINH India Trust.
NOW links nomads from Rajasthan and Haryana with gypsies of Europe and the rest of the world.Together with the Italian nomadic band called ‘Nuove Tribù Zulu’ NOW has created GYPSY Rock tunes. The notes of these musical tunes will be presented by the nomadic artists at the event.
The event will not only give the Amdavadi audience a glimpse of the musical talents of the nomads but will also help promote the nomadic musicians and thereby help link their music with livelihood opportunities.
Student of IIMA and media coordinator of the event Nisseem Nabar said, “Chaos 2010 has invited this group in order to showcase their talent and the confluence of the eastern and western styles in the best possible manner.”
“A short video of their performance has been uploaded on YouTube,” said Nabar. Chaos 2010 will also see performances by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Seth, theatre personality Tom Alter and rock band Outro among others. Chaos will have over 40 competitions for the participants and fun events like mehendi and face painting.
