“The first dish that I recomend in Greece is the yoghurt. Served to you in a huge glass bowl, full of nuts, caramel, fruits and topped with honey, it’s  lip-smackingly delicious and an absolute must-have! The best part is, you can have it as a meal because the portions are so large plus it’s healthy and easily available in most cafes.

We went on a cruise and for four days we couldn’t stop stuffing ourselves with the most amazing Greek cuisine! There was a four-course meal everyday — right from tzatzilki, moussaka, souvlaki to pastries. Tzatziki, which is like a salad, was authentic and was great with pita bread. The moussaka, which is the most popular Greek dish, was absolutely scrumptuous. It’s almost like a lasagne except, instead of pasta, you have sheets of cheese, eggplant and meat sauce. You can opt for a vegetarian version with cheese, zucchini, potatoes etc. The souvlaki again was extremely pleasant to the taste buds. This is meat on skewers, which is taken off it and usually put in pita bread with green veggies and eaten as a wrap. All these authentic Greek dishes are also easily available in most of the restaurants of the Greek Islands.

Now I’d like to tell you about my most favourite omelette in the world which is the Cretan Omelette, a speciality. There are several kinds, but the one I liked the most was a three egg with tons of largely cut bell peppers, zuchini and mushrooms. The other favourite is an omelette made with loads of potatoes in it called Sfougato, recommended only if you are absolutely famished!

I’d also suggest Greek coffee as a must try, if you are a coffee lover. Its extremely strong and had black with a cube of sugar. The other must tries are myzithra cheese and amygadalopitta (almond pie), both Cretan.

Greek food is healthy as it’s cooked in extra virgin oil and
includes several kinds of  salads. From my experience, I’d say skip the fine dining and opt for the quaint street and waterfront cafes that offer not only ‘yummilicious’ food but also an amazing ambience.”
